H.E. Cheng Siwei was elected the Vice-Chairman of the 9th and 10th National People’s Congress (NPC) Standing Committee from 1998-2008. He also served as the Chairman of Central Committee of China National Democratic Construction Association (CNDCA) from 1996-2007, one of the eight democratic parties in China.   

Cheng Siwei was born in June 1935. He graduated from East China Institute of Chemical Engineering in 1956 and later earned his MBA from UCLA in 1983. He was a recipient of an honorary doctorate in Management from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University in 2000 and an honorary doctorate of Economics in 2012 from the Nottingham Trent University.  He won the second national prize of science and technology progress in 1992. He was rewarded “Globalist of the Year” in 2008 by Canadian International council and “Outstanding Chinese” in 2010 by Committee 100 in the U.S.
 
Professor Cheng is a distinguished scholar in economic, financial and managerial fields as well as in chemical industry. He initiated the school of fictitious economy and his work has extensive influence on academia and China’s economic and financial circles. Now he is the Chairman of International Finance Forum, President of Research Center on Fictitious Economy and Data Science at Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS), Dean of School of Management of University of CAS, Chancellor of East China University of Science and Technology. He also served as the external advisor of World Bank Institute, Chairman of China Council of World Economic Forum, etc.
